Le Criquet puant est un ravageur chronique, d'importance très variable, des régions tropicales humides d'Afrique de l'Ouest et d'Afrique centrale. Il a fait l'objet de nombreux travaux, en particulier au Nigeria, mais certains points de sa biologie demeurent encore obscurs.
La bibliographie ci-dessous regroupe sans doute toutes les références utiles. Elle ne prétend cependant pas être exhaustive car ne cherchant pas à répertorier toutes les publications où est simplement citée l'espèce, en particulier divers inventaires.
