THE Head is green.-- The Eyes,
are per-
fectly round and dark brown, very
promi-
nent, and standing at a little distance
from each
other.-- The Antennae, which
consist of eighteen
articulations, are longer than the
thorax.-- The
Thorax, is dark green, and on
the upper part
gibbous ; having on each side three
swellings,
each of which terminate in three short
and thick
spines.-- The Wing-Cases, are of
a darkish green,
with a great number of final spots on
them,
of different shapes, being round, square,
oblong,
etc.-- The Wings, are
of a beautiful scarlet, spot-
tedd with black ; the spots being larger
than those
of the wing-cafes, but like them are of
different
shapes.-- The Abdomen, is
green, with several yel-
low rings surrounding it, and is about
the same
length with the wing-cafes.-- All the Legs,
are
green ; the Thighs being armed
with spines, as is
usual in this tribe.
It came from Sierra Leon in Africa, and
was
lent me by a gentleman who lived there
some
years, to take a drawing from ; by whom I
was
informed, that "they appear about
the end of
June, and soon afterwards retire among
the
branches of the palm-trees, where they
reside till
the violent rains compel them to quit
that situa-
tion, and live among the plants, etc.
on the
ground."
I have not seen it any where described.

ronds, & bruns foncés, fort
saillants, &
placés à une petite distance l'un de
l'autre.-- Les
Antennes composées de dix huit
articulations, sont
plus longues que le corcelet.-- Le Corcelet
est vert
foncé, & sur la partie supérieure
relevé, ayant de
chaque côté trois enflures, chacune
desquelles ter-
mine en trois courtes & grosses
epines.-- Les Etuis
sont verds obscurs, avec un grand
nombre de pe-
tites taches noires, de differentes
formes, rondes,
carrées, oblongues, etc..-- Les
Ailes sont d'une belle
couleur ecarlate, avec des taches noires
plus grandes
que celles sur les etuis, mais aussi de
differentes
formes.-- L'Abdomen est vert
avec plusieurs an-
neaux jaunes, & est environ la même
longueur que
les etuis.-- Tous les Pieds sont
verds, les Cuisses
etant armées des epines, comme il
est commun à cet
genre.
Il vient de Sierra Leon en Afrique ;
& me fut
prété pour en faire le dessein, par un
gentilhomme
qui a demeuré là plusieurs années, qui
m'a aussi
informé, qu'ils paroissent environ la
fin de Juin,
& bientôt après se retirent dans
les branches des
palmiers, où ils vivent jusques les
pluies violentes,
les obligent à quitter cette situation,
pour de-
meurer sur la terre, & entre les
plantes.
